Where it started
Among the gift shops, costumes, and local haunts, you will find Salem’s history waiting to be discovered. 1692 Before & After was born to tell you the truly shocking story of Salem’s past: the people who were accused, the neighbors who accused them, and the town that let it happen.
Jeff grew up in Salem and has spent more than thirty years researching the city’s history and the Witch Trials of 1692. What began as informal tours for friends and family grew into a calling. In 2013, he founded his first tour company, Bewitched After Dark, and spent the next decade walking visitors through the real Salem.
When it comes to Salem, the truth is truly scarier than any of the legends.
In 2023, Jeff parted ways with that first venture and teamed up with his sister, Lori, to start fresh, and 1692 Before & After LLC was born. Jeff developed a new tour that went even deeper into Salem’s history than his first one: rigorously researched, genuinely moving, and welcoming to everyone from serious history buffs to curious first-time visitors.

A Salem native and lifelong student of the Witch Trials, Jeff has spent over thirty years digging through court transcripts, primary sources, and the historical record and owns just about every book published on the subject. He founded his first tour company in 2013 and leads tours himself, bringing 1692 to life on the very streets where it unfolded.

Our family’s story in America reaches all the way back to the Mayflower and the Great Puritan Migration, and, remarkably, to both sides of 1692. We count among our ancestors people connected to the accusers and the accused. When we tell you about the men and women caught up in the trials, we’re not reading from a card. We’re telling a story that runs through our own blood.
